چکیده

Introduction Norepinephrine (NE) is recognized as a potent vasopressor used in septic shock to reverse hypotension. Whether NE still exerts a positive effect on cardiac contractility through beta-adrenergic stimulation is unclear since the sensitivity of beta-adrenergic receptors can be abnormally reduced in septic conditions. Our study was designed to address this issue at the early phase of septic shock.

Early norepinephrine decreases fluid and ventilatory requirements in pediatric vasodilatory septic shock

AIMS We previously reported that vasodilatation was common in pediatric septic shock, regardless of whether they were warm or cold, providing a rationale for early norepinephrine (NE) to increase venous return (VR) and arterial tone. Our primary aim was to evaluate the effect of smaller fluid bolus plus early-NE versus the American College of Critical Care Medicine (ACCM) approach to more liber...

Reversal of 'refractory septic shock' by infusion of amrinone and angiotensin II in an anthracycline-treated patient.

A 53-year-old granulocytopenic woman with malignant lymphoma treated with cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, vincristine, and prednisone (CHOP) chemotherapy, including doxorubicin (Adriamycin) and autologues bone marrow transplantation, presented in the clinical state of "refractory septic shock" caused by Escherichia coli. Despite inotropic treatment with dopamine, dobutamine, and norepinephrine i...

Early versus delayed administration of norepinephrine in patients with septic shock

INTRODUCTION This study investigated the incidence of delayed norepinephrine administration following the onset of septic shock and its effect on hospital mortality. METHODS We conducted a retrospective cohort study using data from 213 adult septic shock patients treated at two general surgical intensive care units of a tertiary care hospital over a two year period. The primary outcome was 28...

Septic shock--vasopressin, norepinephrine, and urgency.

Septic shock is one of the most challenging problems in critical care medicine. Shock due to sepsis accounts for many of the deaths in medical and surgical intensive care units.1-4 It is estimated that septic shock results in approximately 215,000 deaths per year in the United States, a number similar to the number of deaths from acute myocardial infarction. However, the two disorders are not s...

Effects of levosimendan on mortality in patients with septic shock: systematic review with meta-analysis and trial sequential analysis

Object Several studies have investigated a survival benefit for levosimendan treatment in patients with septic shock. However, data are conflicting. We conducted a meta-analysis to evaluate the effect of levosimendan treatment on mortality in patients with septic shock. Materials and Methods We searched PubMed, EMBASE and Cochrane Library Databases up to March 27, 2017, without language restr...
